Anonymous asked: Without Todd McFarlane Spider-Man would not be around today, I think it's time people began considering him as one of the character's creators alongside Stan Lee and Steve Ditko. People do it with Chris Claremont and X-Men characters all the time, so why not allow Todd McFarlane the same accord with a character he kept alive.

brevoortformspring:

Todd McFarlane did great work on Spider-Man, but he in no way saved that character from extinction. AMAZING SPIDER-MAN was a top-selling title when he came onto it. It remained a top-selling title and sold even better while he was doing it, but that’s not quite the same thing as what you’re talking about. So, sure, Todd’s work on Spider-man ought to be celebrated for what it was—an excellent run. But let’s be careful about annointing messiahs.
